Torn Between Borders: Colorado's Young Immigrants Battle Mental Health Challenges Amid Deportation Fears

As the young artists in Convivir's Arts and Conversations Series sketched and drew, they delved into a thought-provoking discussion about a complex social phenomenon. They explored the irony of how immigrants who had themselves arrived years ago often harbored negative attitudes towards newer arrivals, unpacking the layers of prejudice and misunderstanding that can develop within immigrant communities.
The teens shared personal insights and observations, examining the psychological and social dynamics that lead people to distance themselves from more recent immigrants. Through their art and dialogue, they challenged the cycle of exclusion and sought to understand the root causes of such attitudes, highlighting the importance of empathy, shared experiences, and mutual understanding in building inclusive communities.
